"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. " | Socrates
One of the best most challenging journeys you may ever go on is seeing what your body can do. Perhaps you are in shape, totally out of shape, or simply expecting to lose some weight. However, developing a body that you can be proud, one that is very healthy, and lets you truly love each last inch of it really is a dazzling journey to travel down.
So what is the real secret to making a lasting change with your body?
Consistency and commitment.
There's nothing else like coming to the table each day and giving it your best shot. Your best effort must be yours and yours alone. Don't start comparing your journey to other journeys or else you'll become unmotivated and discouraged. Instead, really try and understand you're competing against and with yourself and yourself alone. Will there be times on your journey where you try and fail? Yes, many times. But every single time you do, you must come back with a commitment to achieving something you strongly want. Consistency will keep you in the game and on the field every day. Without it, you will suffer the the inevitable reality of many new years resolutioners who give up each and every single year on making the body of their dreams because they lack the ability to keep on coming back again and againand again.
Commitment also comes to mind, although not the commitment you're probably thinking of in this case. In our world, we are fed this concept that everything must occur at this time and if it does not actually happen right now, it's not worthwhile. Your body is going to really change acrossthe years, so why don't you try and make a lifelong promise to staying healthy? Is that an attractive marketable idea? Not particularly. But is it something that would actually change the course of your life? Totally.
When you make a promise to keeping your body healthy all throughout your entire life, you may ultimately reach whatever goal you wish. It's about seeing the big picture than merely the few months in front of you till summer. It is about developing something that you can be pleased with forever. For me, that new concept changed the course of my life as I was able to ultimately hit my fitness goals after 12 years of fighting with my body image and food issues. But as soon as I changed my world view of what I was trying to accomplish, everything I had wished for came to me. So try it on for size and see if it's working for you. Make a lifetime dedication to remaining healthy and watch how much your body will change in the short term as well.
Bring some commitment and consistency to the table, in all aspects of your life, and things will change drastically.
